NEW RESIDENTS
The sectors of economic activity of our residents
By the end of 2018, there were 140 companies at the Technoparc de Montréal and they employed 7,350 people. A new record set on the site since these results were never achieved during the 31 years of Technoparc Montréal. Below, we have grouped the breakdown by sector for the number of companies and the number of jobs. One thing to point out, the percentage of jobs in the aerospace sector lowered to 31.9% in 2018 from 39% in 2017. This is due in part to layoffs that took place in one of the largest employers of the Technoparc. This also partly explains the rise in the percentage of life sciences and information & communications technologies. In 2018, employment at the Technoparc is 96% concentrated in four technology intensive industries.

Visit at the NEOMED Institute
Last month at the NEOMED Institute, we had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from Manulife. A very rewarding meeting during which we were able to develop a collaboration between the two companies in order to attract new organisations operating in the field of life sciences and health technologies in the Technoparc of Montréal. Also, Manulife participants were able to visit the NEOMED Institute and see that the analysis, vivarium and networking activities will be able to benefit new tenants approached by Manulife to come and settle right in front of the NEOMED Innovation Center. A beautiful synergy was installed!

The Monthly Web Advice by Marketing Ultimum:
5 Statistics on the Importance of Visual Content in 2019
In 2019, we’re all aware of how important it is for businesses to use social media in their online presence. Not only does it create awareness and build engagement, but it’s also a great way to stay in close touch with your audience. However, it’s not always easy to know what to post on those platforms. Amid the common uncertainty, one key aspect stands out in 2019: visual content. At the beginning of the year, Venngage surveyed more than 500 digital marketers to learn more about how they use visual content in their social strategy and what results they’re getting out of it. As it turns out, visual content has taken a very important place in our social marketing strategies.
Here are 5 statistics on the importance of visual content in 2019:
56% of marketers use visual content almost 100% of the time.
88% of them said they used visuals in more than 50% of the articles they published.
40% of marketers say that original graphics (ex. infographics) perform the best and drive the most engagement.
69% of marketers said that visuals are either a very important part of their marketing strategies or an absolute necessity.
32% said they would spend more than 30% of their marketing budget on visual content production in 2019.
So, when it comes to the importance of visuals in your social media strategy, the data speaks for itself: it’s not a question anymore, it’s a necessity. Knowing this, it’s relevant to think about how you can maximize your brand’s social engagement by using visual graphics in your content. A good way to do it can be to start with your website’s content. It’s often a great starting point and a good source of potential visual graphics.

Molecular Forecaster: 3 things you might not know about computational chemistry
As this is our first entry for the Technoparc newsletter, we will introduce ourselves, briefly summarize our field of work, and offer some general information. First, we are a team of medicinal chemists creating unique software for early-stage drug discovery research. For those who despised high school chemistry, have no fear—we work entirely virtually and are at very little risk of causing any fires. The field is commonly and broadly referred to as “computational chemistry”; here are a few things you might not know:
What is computational chemistry?
The primary objective is to use computers to simulate chemistry or biochemistry; in our case, we are trying to predict if a small molecule (a chemical) can be an effective drug someday. We build computational models of the drug and other biological entities (heart, liver, etc.) using statistics, scientific theory, and/or artificial intelligence. Some calculations can be run on a laptop, whereas others might require a supercomputer
Why is computational chemistry helpful?
Accurate predictions save a biotech or pharma company large R&D expenses in labor, materials, and late-stage clinical trial failures. The latter are an immense financial burden, partly responsible for high drug prices. If we can identify the cause of those failures early on, then everyone benefits.
Who uses computational chemistry?
Academia, small biotechs, and large pharmaceutical companies all make use of computational chemistry to solve different problems. In fact, several (if not most) of the recently approved drugs have been impacted in some way by comp. chem. Moreover, there are now applications outside of drug discovery, including material design, manufacturing, and some neat lab automation.
If you’d like to learn more or inquire about our software and services, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Drop in at the NEOMED Institute (now: adMare Bioinnovations), e-mail us at info@molecularforecaster.com, or visit our Website.
